The family of Adenoviridae are non-enveloped, double stranded DNA viruses, about 90–100 nm across. Not to be confused with adeno-associated virus, or AAV, which is a genus of much smaller (20 nm), single-stranded DNA viruses in the family of parvoviruses. Both adenoviruses and AAVs have been used as vectors in experimental gene therapy; only adenoviruses are used in vaccine development.
