hemophilia, also haemophilia, a genetic disorder that impairs the body's ability to make blood clots

Hemophilia A was extremely difficult to treat until factor VIII derived from blood plasma became available in the 1960s. Contamination of HIV in the global blood supply in the 1980s resulted in many hemophiliacs contracting HIV/AIDS, until screening of blood products became mandatory.
