The pharmaceutical company Burroughs-Wellcome & Company was founded in 1880 in London. In 1995 it merged with Glaxo Pharmaceuticals to form Glaxo Wellcome. In 2000 Glaxo Wellcome merged with SmithKline Beecham, forming the present-day GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). ViiV Healthcare is GSK's HIV/AIDS research subsidiary, located in North Carolina.
