Chlorocebus is a genus of six species African, Old World monkeys. The terms "African green monkey" and "vervet monkey" are sometimes used (interchangeably) to refer to the whole genus; this usage also assumes that the six species are actually subspecies.

However, when distinguishing between species, the term "green monkey" refers specifically to the species Chlorocebus sabaeus, which is native to West Africa, while "vervet monkey" refers specifically to the species Chlorocebus pygerythrus, which is native to eastern and southeastern Africa.
